A Study in Mixed Ensemble Chamber Music

Discussed important composers, demonstrate background knowledge of mixed ensemble chamber music, and the challenges they pose. As a trumpeter, we do not have a lot of mixed ensemble chamber pieces. There is almost no scholarly work written on Stephenson’s Thinking. The piece is about nineteen minutes long and has five movements, each of which captioned so as to expand on the title such as; Thinking Outside the Box, Thinking It Over, Thinking About What Was, Thinking Twice, and Thinking Out Loud. Demonstrated characteristics of mixed ensemble chamber music. Provided analysis of this piece as well as explore Stephenson’s unique ideas and a list of mixed ensemble chamber pieces with under ten instruments which includes trumpet, woodwind, and strings.
